A Webinar on Absenteeism among Adolescent Students
I wanted to let you all know about an upcoming webinar that maybe of interest. The webinar is on the topic of school absences (unauthorized) from a Nordic, including Swedish, perspective. The focus is on students who are adolescents. The webinar deals with the latest research on the topic and introduces a new research study that is taking place in Sweden and Finland with adolescent students.
The date of the webinar is January 21, 2021 at 13.00 to 16.00 Stockholm time.

Results from a new study on absenteeism for older students

Related to the topic of school, absenteeism, and adolescents…my colleagues and I on a different project (the KUPOL study) recently published a study that is relevant to adolescents (13 to 16-year olds) attending Swedish schools. The main take away message from this study was that…
If students had a more positive view of their school climate, then they were less likely to be absent from school (unauthorized absences). This was not the case for teacher ratings of the school climate, it was the students’ view of their school (rather than the teachers) that was important to absenteeism for this sample of Swedish adolescents.
